The Bible says many things about marriage, but a deeper look will reveal that some of the things we believe about it are not actually in the Bible. A long time ago, the early Christians feared God and were more careful about not offending him in any way possible. Many made up theories on what they presumed he wanted to mean, and some of these assumptions and beliefs have trickled down to today’s practice.
We are a non-conservative podcast that discusses medicine, Christianity, and public life, in a bid to free people from a rut of non-productive thoughts. There is a massive change in how we view sex today, and it does not help to turn a blind eye because we do not want to ruffle the feathers of the predeceasing Christian community.
What Does The Bible Say About Marriage And Sex?
In our experience, there is a lot of disparity in sex in and out of marriage. Generally, people assume that keeping a conservative moral stand is the most Christian thing to do, which means they will not even refer to the scripture to discover the fundamental truths.
Scholars argue that the Bible does not have explicit restrictions on some sexual relations, such as premarital sex. The belief that sex before marriage came about because many early Christians followed their cultural custom of refraining from sex.
The Bible is thought to be the moral guide for sexual relations, but the only way to prove that sex before marriage is a sin is to find an explicit explanation and statement.
Everyone knows that the Bible is against losing oneself to the lower bodily desires and choosing a path that ultimately leads you to a life of sin in all other areas. Biblical scholars will tell you that God did not provide instructions on the actual formula of breaking one’s virginity. Still, it does help to know that engaging in it will make you vulnerable and be the source of a range of many troubles in life.
Examples Of Sex Before Marriage In The Bible
Ruth was encouraged by Naomi to have relations with Boaz before Boaz had the opportunity to try to marry her. Luckily, the man who had a claim to Ruth agreed to release her upon Boaz’s intervention, and they got married and birthed the bloodline that led to King David and, of course, Jesus.
This story is a prime example that the Bible offers excellent advice on a moral issue,s. Still, we cannot take everything at face value because some wisdom is coded within parables and phrases that were interpreted from ancient languages and customs.
